Homemade Sugar Scrub

The air is becoming crisp, and the leaves are beginning to turn. The shifting of the seasons is upon us. Autumn is often a time to embrace change and the transitioning phases of all things. This can be a great time to slow down, reset your focus, and home in on some much-needed self-care practices.

Seasonal living connects us with the rhythms of nature and our instinctual awareness. Just as the trees begin dropping their leaves, we too can shed the skin cells that no longer serve us. Doing so will turnover new and healthy cells to revive the skins surface.

As the air begins to change my skin becomes dry and my complexion tends to dull. This sugar scrub recipe is the ultimate remedy. I love the texture and have never found a scrub as creamy as this one. It leaves my skin feeling as silky and smooth as it looks.

Benefits

Exfoliating is a method of cleansing that removes dry and dead cells from the skins surface. This uncovers new cells and will brighten the skin’s complexion. Exfoliating can also help to unclog pores and promote better blood flow.

The ingredients in this scrub offer many perks. Castile soap is used for its cleansing properties and lathers up to remove dirt and oil from the surface of the skin. The sugar is gently abrasive to loosen and remove dead skin, deep dirt, and debris that is tapped in the pores. Lastly, the coconut oil has moisturizing properties that will rehydrate and tune the freshly uncovered skin cells.

This scrub is a perfect way to exfoliate skin on the hands, feet, and body, but is not intended for use as a facial scrub. I recommend using a gentler approach, like a konjac facial sponge and castile soap, to exfoliate the sensitive and delicate skin on your face.

Preparation

As you prepare this sugar scrub, infuse it with your intentions for the season. Each time you use the scrub, it can be a reminder of this energy that you’ve stored. Your intentions could be associated with a goal or specific focus for the last quarter of the year. If you don’t have anything specific in mind, I have included an intention below that you can use.

This sugar scrub is dedicated to a slower pace, filled with meaningful moments and deep appreciation throughout the season.
